What is a Leadless Pacemaker?
A leadless pacemaker is a very small pacemaker that is placed entirely inside the heart. It works like a regular pacemaker by sending signals to help the heart beat at a safe rate. Unlike a traditional pacemaker, it does not have wires in the blood vessels and does not need a pocket under the skin of the chest.
The device is placed through a vein in the leg and attached to the lower right chamber of the heart (right ventricle).

Who is a Good Candidate for Leadless Pacemaker?
Benefits
This device has a lower risk of infection. There are also no wire-related problems, such as broken or damaged leads. Most people recover faster after the procedure.
Limitations
Currently leadless pacemakers can only pace one chamber of the heart, so they are not right for everyone. The battery lasts about 15 years. When the battery runs out, a new device is implanted.
Who may benefit?
This device may be a good choice for:
- People with a high risk of infection
- People with limited vein access in the chest
***Please talk to your doctor to see which device is right for you.
