PreOp Instructions by Mail
- Expect a My Health Online message 1-2 weeks prior to your procedure with more detailed instructions, including your arrival time. You may also receive a second reminder phone call from El Camino Hospital. *Please note, disregard the appointment time in PAMF ONLINE as this is inaccurate.
Transportation
- Plan for a responsible adult over the age of 18 to accompany you home.

A taxi, Lyft, or Uber is allowed ONLY if you have another responsible adult with you. If you are unable to arrange transportation home, your procedure may be postponed.

ILR Patients: The above may not apply for procedures without sedation.
Help at Home
- We strongly recommend you have a responsible adult with you for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
- If you have children, arrange for childcare.
Medications

Detailed instructions on medication will be available 1-2 weeks before your procedure.

Afib Patients: It is important that you have been taking a blood thinner for at least 3 weeks beforehand.

Bring a list of your medications and supplements.

Bring your emergency inhalers and/or migraine medication, if applicable.
Symptoms of Illness
Contact your doctor right away if you develop a cold, flu, sore throat, fever, cough, rash, or open wound. We may need to postpone your procedure.
Pregnancy Concerns
Let your doctor before the procedure if there is any chance you are pregnant.
Food and Drink
Unless instructed by your doctor:
- Do not eat or drink after midnight

You can take a sip of water to take your medications the morning of the procedure.
Travel
We advise you to stay local for your recovery following the procedure. This is a general guideline and may change depending on your recovery.
- AF Ablation: until 1-month postop visit
- SVT Ablation/Cardiac Device: until 1-week postop visit
Prior Authorization and Insurance
We have submitted the necessary information to your insurance company. Please note that coverage is subject to your individual plan’s benefits, deductibles, and co-payments. You may contact your insurance carrier for a detailed explanation of benefits and any concerns regarding out-of-pocket costs.
