Procedure Instructions (Pre/Day Of/Post)
***Please refer to each arrhythmia condition section for more specific information about an ablation.
PRE-PROCEDURE
- Nothing to eat or drink (NPO) after midnight the night before your procedure (you may take your morning medications with a small sip of water).
- Please bring a copy of your current medication list to the hospital.
DAY OF PROCEDURE
- Report to the Main Registration Desk at El Camino Hospital

- Under anesthesia, the Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) will be done first, followed immediately by your ablation.
- You will be observed for 3-5 hours after the procedure and possibly admitted overnight. Please bring an overnight bag, just in case. If you are kept overnight, you will be discharged in the morning the next day. Please arrange a ride home from the hospital.
POST PROCEDURE
- You will get detailed instructions at discharge about groin access site care.
- It is strongly recommended that you remain locally for at least 7 days following your ablation procedure. Additionally, please avoid any international travel for 4 weeks post ablation.
- You should have a post-op appointment scheduled with your electrophysiologist already, about 7-11 days after your procedure.
